モンバサ Mombasa's Changamwe area では，高熱，強い関節痛，発疹などチクングニアウイルス感染症に似た症状が特徴で，o'nyong'nyong と呼ばれる蚊族媒介性ウイルスのアウトブレイクへの不安が高まっている。

YA 注－ O'nyong'nyong virus (ONNV)は，蚊族媒介性トガウイルスの 1種 a mosquito-borne RNA virus of the Togaviridae family で，1959年にウガンダ北部の熱性疾患の患者の血清検体から分離された。基本的にはハマダラカ anopheline mosquitoes が媒介する。遺伝学的に chikungunya virus (CHIKV)に関連性を有するが，アフリカ大陸だけに限定されている。臨床像は CHIKV infection に類似するが，CHIKV と異なる点として，ONNV ではリンパ節腫脹 lymphadenopathy が見られることが多く，関節病変には浸出液 effusions を認めない。東アフリカにおいて，during 1959-1962 and in 1996 の 2回の大規模感染流行 が発生した。1回目はウガンダから南はモザンビーク，西はセネガルに拡大し，蚊族媒介性ウイルスのアウトブレイクでは最大となる，東アフリカだけで 200万人以上の患者を発生した。35年間報告がなかったが，ウガンダで a 2nd ONNV epidemic が発生した ... imported cases to other areas が報告されたことはない(1)。

YA 注－ O'nyong'nyong virus (ONNV)は，蚊族媒介性トガウイルスの 1種 a mosquito-borne RNA virus of the Togaviridae family で，1959年にウガンダ北部の熱性疾患の患者の血清検体から分離された。基本的にはハマダラカ anopheline mosquitoes が媒介する。遺伝学的に chikungunya virus (CHIKV)に関連性を有するが，アフリカ大陸だけに限定されている。臨床像は CHIKV infection に類似するが，CHIKV と異なる点として，ONNV ではリンパ節腫脹 lymphadenopathy が見られることが多く，関節病変には浸出液 effusions を認めない。東アフリカにおいて，during 1959-1962 and in 1996 の 2回の大規模感染流行 が発生した。1回目はウガンダから南はモザンビーク，西はセネガルに拡大し，蚊族媒介性ウイルスのアウトブレイクでは最大となる，東アフリカだけで 200万人以上の患者を発生した。35年間報告がなかったが，ウガンダで a 2nd ONNV epidemic が発生した ... imported cases to other areas が報告されたことはない(1)。
とはいえ，今回の報告が an outbreak of o'nyong-nyong virus と確定されたわけではなく; it is still suspected.]
