ロンドン在住者にとって、ニューヨークへ行かないことやスーツケースを煮沸することだけでは、世界的なトコジラミの感染流行 the global bedbug pandemic から逃れることはできない。すでに、周りのホテル、自宅や映画館にもいるかもしれないからだ。 _Cimicidae_と呼ばれる、Apple seed-sized, flat, brownish bedbugs はかつて、世界中にあふれていたが、現在使用が禁止となっている殺虫剤 DDT によってほとんど一掃されていた。しかし害虫駆除会社によると，アタマジラミ head lice 同様、ここ数十年間にその数が増え元に戻りつつある。poverty or poor hygiene と相まって、あらゆる航空会社のクラスの荷物、座席、衣服についたトコジラミが，人々が寝たり休んだりするところならどこへでもジェット機で移動することができる。7日の週に42000人以上の，トコジラミに関する問い合わせが customer feedback travel website に寄せられた。British pest control firm Rentokil Plc がこの1年間に行った駆除件数は24%増加した。人々は気づかないまま、衣服やバックの中のトコジラミを運んでいるという。
