最近発生したインド技術研究所 the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) における食中毒の原因は、クレブシエラ菌 _Klebsiella_ が関係している可能性がある。所内食堂 the IIT [Indian Institute of Technology] canteen に食事を提供する業者も，食品医薬品当局 the FDA（Food and Drug Administration, Maharashtra）も食中毒の原因は全くつかめていない。便および水の4検体が採取され、3検体でクレブシエラ菌 _Klebsiella_，残りの1検体で大腸菌 _E. coli_の存在が示唆されているが、確定されていない。
[Mod.LL－ _Klebsiella_ species が下痢症に関係したと言う話は聞いたことがないが、抗生物質投与後の血性下痢症に _K. oxytoca_ などの _Klebsiella が関係した例がある。クロストリジオイデス・ディフィシル菌 _Clostridium difficile_ 陰性の成人の抗生物質関連腸炎22例のうち、5例の便検体から _K. oxytoca_ のみが培養され、サイトトキシンの産生が確認された。内視鏡検査では粘膜の浮腫と出血があり、偽膜は確認されなかった ... 同様のクレブシエラ菌関連疾患として、エジプトからフランスに帰国した女性の症例から分離された菌が，HeLa cells (similar to enteroaggregative _E. coli_) に接着し感染細胞のアクチン細胞骨格タンパクの変化を誘導 (腸管病原性大腸菌 enteropathogenic _E. coli_と同じ) したが、大腸菌の病原因子 the _E. coli_ pathotype virulence factors と同じ遺伝子は確認されなかった]
