[Mod.JW 注－ProMED は 20140823.2717179 で、リベリアの Dr Brantly and his family が残した着衣や所持品について、廃棄ではなく、エチレンオキサイド ethylene oxide (ETO) による除染が可能ではないか、とコメントした]
現在の標準的な室内全体及び小型アイテム whole room and small item の除染は、過酸化水素か二酸化塩素ガスによる薫蒸 vaporized hydrogen peroxide or chlorine dioxide である。ラボや器具だけでなく、生産地 production areas でも主流 a staple となっている。炭疽事件中の米国郵便の除染にも同じ方法が用いられていた。非常に簡便かつより安全に取り扱える。ETO は持ち運びや設置で非常に危険性が高く、発がん性の可能性のある残留物の除去のために広範囲の換気を必要とする。a biosafety professional としての意見である。

カラチ Karachi Gardens の男性 1名が、2014年のパキスタン (シンド Sindh 州) で 8人目のアメーバ _Naegleria fowleri_ の犠牲者になったと、23日報じられた。7人がカラチの患者で、1人がハイデラバード Hyderabad の患者である。34歳のこの男性は、20日に現地病院に入院したが 21日に死亡した。患者の自宅と店の水の検査を行っていると、保健当局者が述べた。the epicenter of a _Naegleria fowleri_ outbreak のカラチでは 2012年夏にも、10人が死亡している。米国 the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) によると、_Naegleria fowleri_ は水中に生息し、まれであるが侵襲性の脳の感染症である primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) の原因となる。アメーバは水とともに鼻から人体内に入る。温かい淡水 warm freshwater places での遊泳やダイビングの際に感染することが多い ... パキスタンにおいて、清めの儀式 ablution を通じてアメーバに感染すると報告されている。このお清めはヨガ、アーユルベーダ、イスラムの伝統などが関係する。イスラムの信仰では、wudu, or ablution というお清めの中に、鼻腔洗浄儀礼が含まれる。通常、1日に数回、礼拝前に実施される。鼻腔洗浄器？ neti pots の使用でも感染することがあるが、汚染された水を飲んでも _Naegleria fowleri_ には感染しない、と the CDC は説明している。
