ノルウェーで 20頭を超えるイヌが亜急性出血性胃腸炎により死亡し，同じ症状の 60頭以上のイヌが確認され，現在も集計が続いている。8月18日頃に始まったと見られ，症例の大部分が Oslo and surrounding areas に集中しているものの，全国から同様の症例が報告されている。The Norwegian Veterinary Institute 獣医学研究所 working together with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norwegian Veterinary College), and several of the large veterinary clinics などが情報を共有し分析を行っている。10頭の剖検では，pathological signs of severe hemorrhagic gastroenteritis の所見が得られている。細菌学的調査により，死亡したイヌの消化管内からウェルシュ菌 _Clostridium perfringens_ とともに，グラム陰性菌 the gram-negative bacterium の _Providencia alcalifaciens_ が分離されている。死亡したイヌの組織検体について，ウイルス，真菌，トキシンほか，その他の other possible causative agents が検査されている。ドッグフード，おもちゃ，環境からの暴露についても調査中である。多くの症例が発症から 24時間以内に死亡している。
典型的な臨床経過の記述: a healthy dog that suddenly becomes ill with signs of acute, severe hemorrhagic diarrhea, vomiting (often also bloody). The body temperature is normal, in some cases lowered, and there are no signs of leukopenia/neutropenia (common indication of a viral infection). CRP (C-reactive protein test) is in many cases increased. Snap tests for parvovirus are negative.
