12月3日，WHO にマリの 3例の黄熱患者 yellow fever cases in Mali が報告され，1例の死亡例が含まれていた。このうち 2例は Wogouna and Keregoura villages, Bougoni district, Sikasso region in the South of Mali の患者，1例は Nanakenieba village, Kati district, Koulikoro region in the south west of Mali の患者であった。また，報告された患者は 15－25歳の若年者 young adults で，1人が女性，2人が男性であり，発症日は 2019年11月上旬である。12月3日，Institute Pasteur Dakar on 3 Dec 2019 において，yellow fever IgM and PCR positive が確認された。患者らのワクチン接種状況は調査中であるが，2例については過去に接種歴があったと報告されている。最後の国内でのワクチン接種キャンペーンは，2008年のカバー率が 50% から 9% と報告された発生地域を含めて 2008年に実施されている。The average national vaccination coverage for 2017 は 65% と報告されている (data from Imperial College)。同国内で黄熱ワクチンが定期接種として導入されたのは 2002年だった。2015年にマリで 10例の患者が検出されたとの過去データがある。

2019年10月8日，A 44-year-old man が狂犬病感染の疑い with a suspected rabies infection のため，a public hospital (ICU Bisceglie, Barletta-Andria-Trani province, Apulia region, Italy) に入院した。入院時に，急性呼吸障害 acute respiratory distress が認められた。臨床症状が悪化したため，バーリの三次病院・集中治療室 the ICU of a tertiary hospital (ICU Policlinico, Bari, Italy) に転院となったが，入院 45日目の 11月19日に死亡した。パドバの狂犬病センター the National and FAO Reference Centre for Rabies, IZSVe (Padova, Italy) で，死後の狂犬病診断検査 Antemortem laboratory diagnostic tests for rabies が行われ，確定診断された。この男性は 9月8日，the Island of Zanzibar (Tanzania) で攻撃性の強いイヌに右腕を咬まれていた。直ちに，消毒液 (Betadine and hydrogen peroxide) による創洗浄と，免疫グロブリンがない中，狂犬病ワクチンによる，暴露後発症予防措置を受けている。しかしながらこの患者は，自己免疫疾患に対するステロイド治療のため，免疫不全状態にあり，残念ながらこの重要な情報が発症まで伝えられていなかった ... recent WHO recommendations 改訂により， the pre-exposure prophylaxis [PrEP 暴露前接種] protocol が 3 から 2 shots administered within one week (0-7) に変更された ... those recommended by the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC-ATL, , paragraph "Keep away from animals" under "Stay Healthy and Safe").
