11月23日現在，アリゾナ州内の郡 Maricopa County, Arizona において，合計 1091例のウエストナイルウイルス感染例 human West Nile virus (WNV) cases in 2021 が報告されている。これは今年の全米の総患者数のおよそ半数にあたる (1974 reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through 16 Nov 2021)。過去最多の年間患者数 [in Arizona] は 2004年の 355例だった。郡当局から 79例の死亡 deaths を報告した。2000年，Maricopa County の年間の合計患者数は，3 cases and one death だった。保健当局者 the Maricopa County Health Department によると，雨の少なかった 2000年 a dry 2020 season に続く，雨の多い今年のモンスーンシーズン this very wet monsoon season が水たまり standing water を生じ，多数の蚊の発生が促された。州全体では合計 1233 total confirmed and probable cases and 90 deaths が確認されている。
