南スーダン South Sudan では、2014年から常態的にE型肝炎ウイルス HEV の感染例が報告されており、国内避難民 IDP のキャンプがある南スーダン中北部のユニティ Unity 州ルブコナ Rubkona 郡ベンティウ Bentiu で繰り返しの発生が報告されている。2021年、同国では HEV 感染者数が大幅に増加しており、2018～2020年の 3年間に報告された 564人が、2021年には 1,143人の疑い例と 5人の死亡例の報告となっている（11月29日現在）。2020年から2021年の過去2年間では、合計1,420人の疑い例が報告され、そのうち47人がウガンダウイルス研究所 Uganda Virus Research Institute: UVRI でポリメラーゼ連鎖反応 PCR により検査により HEV 感染と確定されている。今回の 2021年のアウトブレイクはユニティ州で発生しており、主にベンティウの国内避難民キャンプからの患者が報告されている。このため、保健省 MoH は 2021年8月にベンティウの IDP キャンプでの HEV アウトブレイクを宣言した。323人（全体の28.3％）は、キャンプ外のベンティウおよびルブコナから報告されており、周辺コミュニティでも感染が継続していることが示唆されている。 15～44歳の男性が最も多く、次いで 1～4歳の男児、15～44歳の女性となっている。現在、入院患者はなく、外来診療にて臨床管理が行われている ...
