この種の初めてとなる研究として，幼児に使用された抗生物質は，複数の小児用ワクチンによって誘導される抗体反応の低下に関係することが示された。27日の Pediatrics 掲載のこの論文で，抗生物質が投与された 2歳以下の幼児では，3種混合 the diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (DTaP) および肺炎球菌結合 pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) ワクチンによる抗体価が，抗生物質を投与されていない児に比べて低いことが示された。また，連用により経時的に蓄積された抗生物質も，ワクチンにより誘導される抗体レベルに負の影響を与えることが確かめられた。抗生物質とワクチンによる免疫反応の関係については，これ以前にマウスや成人での研究では示されていたが，小児での関連についてはこれが初めての報告である。children ages 6-24 months in Rochester, New York についての後ろ向き研究 a retrospective, secondary analysis of a cohort study に基づくもので，プライマリケアを受診する呼吸器感染症の，特に急性中耳炎に焦点が当てられている。推奨されている予防接種を受け，生後 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 months of age の健診 well-child visits で採血が行われた。両親に既往疾患と抗生物質処方について質問し，the DTaP, PCV, inactivated polio (IPV), and _Haemophilus influenzae_ type b (Hib) vaccines による抗体を測定し，抗生物質処方の有無により比較した。560人のうち，342人が 1678 antibiotic courses を処方され，218人は抗生物質を処方されていなかった。amoxicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, cefdinir, and ceftriaxone が最も多く，保育施設への通園 daycare attendance と強く関連していた .. 抗生物質の中で，cefdinir (odds ratio [OR], 1.58), ceftriaxone (OR, 1.39), and amoxicillin-clavulanate (OR, 1.58) は（ワクチンによる）抗体レベルの低下に関係していたが，Amoxicilin は関係しなかった。また，出生後 1年間に抗生物質を処方された回数が，その後のワクチンによる抗体レベルに影響を与えていた ... ブースター接種（18-24か月）への抗生物質の影響はより大きかった ... 原文参照願います。
