24日の BMJ 誌掲載のイスラエルからの報告で，60歳以上の成人に対する Pfizer-BioNTech's mRNA COVID vaccine の 4回目接種による有効性は，3回目接種後よりも早く減弱することが示されている。2022年初からの 10週間について調べられ，outcomes of 69 623 adults with 3 doses of Pfizer with 27 876 adults who received 4 doses を比較した。イスラエルでオミクロン omicron が優位 the dominant strain in Israel であった期間に調べた。the 10 week follow-up period 中に 106人が死亡し，このうち 77人が 3回接種，23人が 4回接種していた。ブレイクスルー感染を評価するため，ワクチン接種後の週数ごとに陽性例とコントロール群をマッチさせて解析した。4回目接種により加わえられた感染に対する有効性は時間とともに速やかに減少し，ピークは 3週間後の 65.1% で 10週目の終わりには 22.0% にまで低下していた。4回目接種により，3回接種後よりも感染および重症化に対する防御作用が付け加えられたが，時間とともに変化し，3回目接種後よりも早い時期に減弱した，と述べられている。感染予防に関する有効性は，4回目接種の 5週間後までに，1週間後と同レベルに戻ってしまった。
