Background. 無症候性サル痘感染 Evidence of subclinical monkeypox infection についての報告は少数の免疫学的研究 a few immunological studies に限られ，サル痘感染例に暴露した無症状の接触者において，オルソポックスウイルスに対する免疫が認められたというものである。今回，2022年のベルギーでのサル痘感染流行開始前後の，ベルギーの大規模・性感染症クリニック a large Belgian STI clinic におけるスクリーニング検査を受けた中での無症候性感染の有無について評価を行った。
Methods. 淋菌/クラミジアスクリーニングのために採取された肛門・直腸スワブ検体 Anorectal and oropharyngeal swabs collected for gonorrhoea/chlamydia screening from 1-31 May 2022 について，後ろ向きのサル痘 PCR検査 retrospectively tested by a monkeypox-specific PCR を行った。Cases with a positive PCR result についてクリニック再診と情報収集を行った. ...
Findings. 保存されている 224 men の検体中，3 cases with a positive anorectal monkeypox PCR を確認した。All 3 men 全員が，検体採取前後の数週間に何ら症状がなかったとしている。いずれも診断を受けたサル痘症例との接触はなく，また接触者の中でサル痘の症状を発症したものもないと報告している。初回検体の採取から 21－37日後に Follow-up samples が採取され，この時点で the monkeypox-specific PCR は陰性であり，（ウイルスが）自然に排除されたもの a consequence of spontaneous clearance of the infection と考えられる
