2月17日朝現在，赤道ギニアおよび周辺国からの新たなマールブルグ病は報告されていない no new confirmed cases of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) in Equatorial Guinea (EG) or the surrounding countries。国境を越えたカメルーン Cameroon 側で 2 suspected cases が確認されたが，血液検査で both MVD and Ebola はいずれも陰性だった。EG, Cameroon, and Gabon（ガボン）各国政府当局は健康サーベイランスを強化し，疑われる症状 possible MVD symptoms がある全ての人々の検査を行っている。今後数日から数週間に suspected cases の報告が予想される。

患者の多くが all-inclusive hotels in the region of Santa Maria on the island of Sal（サル島）の 5つ星ホテル（複数）に滞在していた。最新の症例は，2023年1月中旬のスウェーデンの症例である。男性に比べ，3倍以上女性の感染例が多く，ポルトガルの 2例が入院した。
複数の感染経路が想定されるが，最も可能性が高いのは食品を介する経路で，これには食品取扱者も含まれる。しかしながら，ヒトからヒトへの感染の可能性もあると，欧州保健当局 the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) は述べている。
