イタリア国内で発生した未殺菌の乳製品が関係するアウトブレイクにより5人が死亡したと報告された。菌に汚染された牛乳から作られた，殺菌処理が行われていないフレッシュチーズ unpasteurized fresh cheese が感染の原因であった。イタリア国内の生ミルクチーズによるアウトブレイクとして，最大かつ最も深刻な事例と考えられると，科学雑誌 the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases の中で述べられている。From November 2021 to May 2022 の期間に，イタリア中部で37例の連鎖球菌感染例 cases of _Streptococcus equi_ subspecies _zooepidemicus_ が確認され，うち23例が入院した。ヒトでの感染は通常，感染した動物との直接の接触，または汚染のあるミルクや乳製品の摂取により生じる。From November 2021 to February 2022 の期間に，the province of Pescara に住む18人の入院患者が確認された。症状として，敗血症，咽頭炎，関節炎，ぶどう膜炎，心内膜炎が認められた。5例が重症髄膜炎により死亡した。患者の年齢は6歳から98歳までで，中央値は79歳だった。19例の入院患者から分離された21件の菌が Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale in Teramo, Italy に提出された。All 21 clinical strains には密接な関連性があり，共通の感染源があることが示唆された。医師，獣医師，疫学者，科学者，微生物学者，communication experts らによる調査と，遺伝子解析 whole-genome sequencing (WGS) から，unpasteurized fresh dairy products が the outbreak source であることが判明した。疫学調査により，31人の患者が発生地域内 within the outbreak area の生産者や小売り業者から購入したチーズ soft or semi-soft cheeses を摂取しており，1か所の生産者 one dairy producer の殺菌処理されていないミルクのサンプル an unpasteurized bulk cow milk sample で，連鎖球菌 _Streptococcus zooepidemicus_ が検出された。当局の調査で，18 _Streptococcus zooepidemicus_ strains from 2 bulk milk tanks（ミルクタンク）and 2 cured raw milk cheese（生チーズ）samples が確認された。さらに患者らからの菌との強い関連性も確かめられた。the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale 研究所のデータレビューで，2021年11月に乳腺炎のあったウシのミルクから分離された菌が特定され，今回の検査で陽性となった同じ業者の所有するウシであった。2021年10月から11月にかけて牛舎の工事が行われたことがストレスとなり乳腺炎を発症したのではないかと生産者は述べている ...
