出生時に梅毒 syphilis の感染のある新生児の数の増加が An alarming report from the CDC で明らかにされた。先天梅毒 congenital syphilis cases が2020年から2021年にかけて32%増加し，テキサス Texas 州でもっとも多い700例近い症例が報告されたとしている。他の多くの南部州とともに，テキサス州は性感染症 STI's [sexually transmitted infections]，中でも梅毒の急増 a surge を経験しており，気づかれにくい感染症 kind of a quiet infection であることが原因と考えている，と周産期医療の医師 Maternal-Fetal Medicine Doctor with UTHealth & Memorial Hermann が述べている。
先天梅毒は母親から出産前の胎児に感染する場合をいい，the CDC によると先天梅毒の増加により少なくとも220例の死産または新生児死亡が起きている。児が生存した場合でも，深刻な問題が遺る。血液，骨，肝臓などの障害や，中枢神経系に感染が及んだ場合は神経梅毒 neuro-syphilis となると説明されている。
