フランス北西部 the Gironde - Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of south-western France ではじめてウエストナイルウイルス The circulation of West Nile virus が確認された。2022年秋に複数のウマが神経症状を発症したが、はじめてのヒトの感染例 the 1st human case of West Nile virus infection が確認されたのは、2023年7月中旬だった。8月7日までに 5 confirmed and 2 probable human cases が報告されており、うち3例は無症状で、 2例が West Nile fever、2例が West Nile neuroinvasive disease (meningitis、髄膜炎) を発症した。いずれも地域内で感染 locally acquired in Gironde, including Bordeaux city and suburbs した
