Panama reports more than 4000 cases of screwworm
Panama today [11 Apr 2024] reported 4700 cases of screwworm in cattle, an outbreak which is growing if it is taken into account in all of 2023 they registered 10 000 incidents.
The cattle screwworm is a larva of the _Cochliomyia hominivorax_ fly which feeds on the living tissue of animals and humans. A reinfestation of this pest, as is currently happening, can cause million-dollar losses in the livestock sector.
