ヨハネスブルグ northern Johannesburg の Life Fourways hospital 病院で隔離中の 55歳男性は，新型アレナウイルス the [novel] arenavirus を含むすべての出血熱検査が陰性であった。男性の体調は回復しつつある。マラウイ在住のこの南アフリカ市民は，11月6日に同院に搬送され隔離病棟に収用された。高熱，強い腹痛，背部痛，嘔吐があったが，内出血の所見は確認されていなかった。

2008年9月と10月に，新型アレナウイルスによる出血熱で 4人が死亡している
