20世紀初頭の数十年間は、スペインにおいてマラリア Malaria は非常にありふれていた。1930年代後半から1940年代前半にかけて、29万3千人の患者と1278人の死者が報告されている。自所内感染の最後の報告は、1950年代に行われている。1964年9月に WHO によりマラリア清浄国の証明を受けた。
