"Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) はこれまでに 12カ国から報告されている。地域的な感染源に関わらずregardless of geographic origin. 、単一の共通する病原体 a common strain of agent が全ての患者 all vCJD cases の原因となっているとの仮説を立て、これを証明するために、フランス、オランダ、イタリア、米国のヒトの患者 human vCJD case-patients からの脳検体を 、菌株タイピングパネル[?] の野生のラット strain-typing panels of wild-type mice に接種した。マウスの、臨床症状、神経病理学的変化、glycoform profile について観察を行った; 結果について、英国の 2 reference vCJD cases と比較検討した。実験に使われた、それぞれのサンプルについて、マウスへの伝播 Transmission が確認され、マウス系統 mouse lines により発症までの平均潜伏期間に差が見られたものの、non-UK and UK cases に違いは認められなかった。これらの結果は、a single strain of infectious agent が all vCJD infections の病原体であるとの仮説を支持するものであった。しかし、incubation times に違いが見られたことから、症例間の菌株特性の真の相違を確認するには、さらにマウスの継代 ｆurther subpassage を行うことが必要と考えられた" ... 以下、原文参照願います。

診断の時期 Diagnosis of sCJD はかなり遅れていた quite delayed 。急速に進行する認知症 dementia がある場合、神経変性、自己免疫、感染症、中毒／代謝が原因であることが疑われる患者であっても、鑑別疾患として sCJD を入れ、脳 RI diffusion brain magnetic resonance imaging などの必要な診断検査を検討すべきである。プライマリケアと神経内科医らは、training in sCJD diagnosis の改善が必要である。
