Mecca から帰国したマレーシア人男性1名が呼吸器症状を発症し、The Middle East respiratory syndrome-coronavirus (MERS-CoV) によるアジアで初めての犠牲者が発生した。Batu Pahat, Johor のこの54歳男性は、the Umrah のあと、[29 Mar 2014 に] マレーシアに到着し、発熱、咳、呼吸困難の症状で3日間、the Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail に入院していたが、[13 Apr 2014] 死亡した。[29 Mar 2014 に] the Jeddah-Istanbul-Kuala Lumpur 間の移動の際に搭乗した the Turkish Airlines flights TK93 and TK60 の乗客らに保健当局から注意が呼びかけられている。2012年に中東で初めて確認された The MERS-CoV に関しては、専門家らも原因を特定できていない [特定できていないのは、はっきりした感染経路であって、the "cause" は the MERS associated coronavirus である]。the MERS-CoV に関しては、The World Health Organization に対し、世界中でこれまでに 238 cases of the disease and 92 deaths が報告されている。

The 2nd is a 52-year-old male citizen who has passed away.
The 3rd is a 41-year-old male resident in stable condition.
The 4th is a 44-year-old male resident in stable condition.
The 5th is a 28-year-old male citizen working in the health field, and his condition is stable.
The 6th is a 35-year-old male resident working in the health field, and his condition is stable.
Of 200 samples tested, the above 6 were the only positive cases.

ジュネーブとカイロの the WHO の専門家らと保健省との updates on MERS CoV フォローアップのための、サテライトミーティングが開催された。Jeddah province の症例が提示され、すべての手続きが同疾患に即していたことが確認された。WHO 本部に対し同省は3月時点の感染を以下のように報告; 診断結果 37 positive MERS CoV cases in 5 hospitals in Jeddah province after testing 2517 specimen of patients and their [contacts]。これ以前の Jeddah からの報告は2例であった。21例が医療関係者で、このうち15例は症状を呈しておらず、9例については市中での感染と考えられている。[医療関係者の感染例のうち]6例に患者との接触が認められ、1例は家族内での接触があったが、何ら症状を示さなかった。Jeddah の報告例のうち、7例が死亡し、患者が感染した一次施設からの報告だった。
