ウィスコンシン Wisconsin 州南部で 44人が感染し，18人が死亡したまれな細菌感染によるアウトブレイクの感染源を調査するため，保健当局が，水質，スキンケア製品，市販薬を検査し，患者からの聞き取り調査を行っている。検査機関での検査結果，エリザベトキンギア _Elizabethkingia_ と呼ばれる細菌によることが示唆されているが，1月に調査が開始されたにもかかわらず，感染源の特定に至っていない。患者の多くが高齢者で，重篤な持病を有していた。小児の患者は報告されておらず，ヒトからヒトへの感染伝播の証拠もない ... The 44 cases が確認されたのは以下の地域 counties: Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Jefferson, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sauk, Washington and Waukesha ... UW Hospital and Madison's Veterans Hospital 各病院はこれまでにこのような患者を受け入れたことはなく，Meriter Hospital は2014年以降 2例の患者を経験している。St. Mary's Hospital は患者受け入れの有無を明らかにしていない。他の州のアウトブレイクと関連する患者は確認されていない。全米で毎年約 250 to 500 cases が発生し，近年少数のアウトブレイクが確認されている。今回の The Wisconsin outbreak は最大であり，18人が死亡しているが，細菌感染により死亡したのか，がん，糖尿病，腎臓病，肝硬変などの持病による死亡であるかは明らかではない。_Elizabethkingia_ がヒトに病原性を示すことはまれで，症状として，発熱，息切れ，悪寒，蜂窩織炎，皮膚感染症などがある。初めての患者が報告されたのは 2015年12月で，翌1月初めには調査が開始されている ... 44人の患者は異なる上水道システムを使用しており，一部は井戸水を使っているため，汚染源として給水による拡散は考えにくい。患者や環境中からの検体が the CDC に提出されている。_Elizabethkingia_ は一部の抗生物質に耐性であるが，他の抗生物質は有効であり，複数の患者らが抗生物質の併用により治療されている。米国内の過去のアウトブレイク Previous outbreaks of _Elizabethkingia_ には病院が関係していたが，the Wisconsin outbreak はそれとは異なるようだと述べられている ... 1959年に同菌の報告を行った，当時 CDC にいた Elizabeth King にちなんで命名された。The Wisconsin outbreak は，2011年に初めて蚊族で確認された the species _anophelis_ of _Elizabethkingia_ 菌によるものだった。蚊族がこの細菌を伝播することができるのかは不明である。

ウェルシュ菌 _Clostridium perfringens_ type A 食中毒による死亡はまれだが，抗コリン作用を有する薬物を服用する精神科患者で報告されている。消化管運動が制限されるため，トキシンへの長時間暴露につながる。死後剖検所見で，トキシックメガコロン toxic megacolon や壊死性腸炎 necrotizing enterocolitis が確認されている。(ウェルシュ菌食中毒の）最も考えられる原因は，特に施設等での，調理済み食品の不十分な温度管理である。アウトブレイクも報告されているが，個別の発生例は見逃されている可能性がある。(CDC , NCBI ).
