12月13日にWHOから公表された情報によりますと、バングラデシュのCox's Bazarでは800人を超えるジフテリア患者が発生しています。

2017年11月3日から 12月12日にかけて、ロヒンギャから Cox's Bazar に移動してきた難民の間で、ジフテリア疑い患者 804人（死亡者 15人を含む）が報告された。感染の発端となる疑い患者は、Cox's Bazar で活動する国境なき医師団（MSF）によって、11月10日に報告された。疑い患者のうち、73％が15歳未満で、60％が女性だった。ジフテリアによる死亡が疑われた 15人のうち、14人が 15歳未満の子どもだった。これまでのところ、地域住民でのジフテリアの発生は報告されていない。
