タイ保健当局 Thailand's Bureau of Epidemiology は，2021年のブタ連鎖球菌感染 human _Streptococcus suis_ infections は，2020年と比較して 67% 増加したと報告した。2021年，576 cases，including 24 deaths が報告された。the northern provinces で最も多く報告があった。ハイリスク地域で好まれる食べ物である，ブタの血液を添えた生肉 (Lahp-moo) や，感染予防策をしないブタとの濃厚接触などにより，散発的に _Streptococcus suis_ infection が発生している。毒素 toxins が産生され死亡につながることもあり，髄膜炎，聴覚障害，トキシックショック，敗血症，心内膜炎などが引き起こされることもある。
