High-pressure oxygen treatment may help long COVID
高圧環境下での純酸素吸入 breathing pure oxygen in a high-air-pressure environment により，long COVID の改善が期待できることが，イスラエルでの小規模臨床試験のデータで示された。3か月以上にわたって感染後症状 post-COVID symptoms が続いている 74人の患者がランダムに，hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT，高圧酸素療法) と a sham treatment（模擬治療）に割り付けられた。the HBOT group の患者には，通常より多くの酸素が肺に取り込まれる大気圧の 2倍から3倍の気圧室内において，純酸素吸入が 40回実施された。最終回の治療直後に the HBOT group では模擬療法の患者に比べて，思考能力，活力，睡眠，精神症状，痛みなどの症状で "significant improvement（著しい改善）" が認められたと，12日の Scientific Reports で報告された。症状の改善に伴って，MRI 画像上でも脳の構造および機能面での回復と，脳血流の改善が認められたと述べられている。HBOT は治癒が遷延する創傷や，最近では外傷性脳損傷の治療などに用いられることが多いが，long COVID に対する治験は今回が初めてとなる ...
