[Mod.LWW－今回の研究では，ハイブリッド免疫における natural immunity の効果を評価した研究が除外されており残念 a missed opportunity。ワクチン未接種者に対しては今も重症疾患であり，ワクチン接種こそがおそらく protective immunity のためにもっとも安全な方法と考えられる。今後の感染予防に対して最も強力な防御作用を与えるのは hybrid immunity (vaccination + infection) であることが最近の研究で示唆されてはいるものの，初めて自然感染する前にまずワクチンを接種することで最強となると考えられる。このような such hybrid immunity とワクチンの追加接種の効果との比較が，現在さかんに行われている。

Interpretation

ZF2001 is safe, well tolerated, and immunogenic in children and adolescents aged 3-17 years. Vaccine-elicited sera can neutralise the omicron BA.2 subvariant, but with reduced activity. The results support further studies of ZF2001 in children and adolescents.

[5] 治療 Treatment: One-shot COVID-19 treatment shows promise

現時点で COVID-19 治療のための薬品棚はほとんど空に近く fairly sparse，唯一レムデシビル -- remdesivir -- だけが当局 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) の承認を得ており，3種類の薬剤 -- Paxlovid, molnupiravir, and convalescent plasma -- が緊急使用について承認されている。新たな変異株が次々に登場し，次世代の治療薬の開発が最優先課題となっている。

そのような治療の選択肢となる可能性のあるものとして，インターフェロンラムダ interferon lambda がある。2月8日の医学誌 the New England Journal of Medicine 掲載の研究報告で Stanford University の研究者らは，発症後 3日以内の同薬剤の単回接種 a single injection により，ワクチン既接種者の COVID-19 による入院を 51%，死亡についても 50% 減少を報告している。ワクチンを接種していない人々についてはより大きな 80% 以上入院リスクを低下させる効果があり，Paxlovid と同等の効果が認められた。[出典 NEJM]

Interferon lambda はウイルス感染症の様々なレベルに作用する抗ウイルス薬 an antiviral で: 侵入したウイルスに対する殺作用と，感染のない細胞への抗感染防御準備の注意信号を送る作用をもつ。従って多数の異なるウイルスに対し作用する。最も研究が進んでいるのは，同薬剤の製造と試験を行う Eiger BioPharmaceuticals 社で，Glenn が資金提供し，the hepatitis D virus（D型肝炎ウイルス）に対する研究で同等の利益を維持している。

複数の変異株が循環する 2023年6月から 2022年2月までの間に，ブラジルとカナダで 2000人近くを対象に行われた現在の研究で，参加者の約半数ずつに同薬剤とプラセボが投与され，軽度の副反応 minimal side effectsが認められたのみだった。経口薬 the oral treatment Paxlovid は 5日間に数十錠の服用が必要となり，コレステロール低下薬のスタチンを含む一般的な処方薬との相互作用が問題となる。

[6] To Mask or Not to Mask: That Is (Somehow) Still a Question

"Wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference（コミュニティにおいてマスク着用はほとんど効果がない）" their work comparing masking with non-masking to prevent influenza or SARS-CoV-2.

さらに，医療現場で常にマスクを着用することについても，

"there were no clear differences" between medical or surgical masks versus N95s の明確な違いはなかった，とされている。

しかしながら従来から言われているとおり，

今回のレビューでは，マスクが COVID-19 の感染を全く減少させなかった definitely do not reduce，ではなく，証明できなかった，と言っているのである。
