今回初めて，the _Borrelia lonestari_ organism によるダニ回帰熱 a case of tickborne relapsing fever (TBRF) の男性患者 an Alabama man が確認されたと，the CDC が報告した。アラバマ州在住で免疫不全のある75歳の患者が，激しい倦怠感と悪寒，発汗，頭痛，めまいを伴って反復する発熱の症状のため，2019年4月に大学病院のクリニック The Kirklin Clinic of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) を受診した。(Emerg Infect Dis 2023; 29(2): 441-4) 男性は，過去1か月間にこれらの症状が週に1ないし2回繰り返されていると述べた。発症のおよそ4週間前に，身体に付着したダニを除去したことを報告している。経口のドキシサイクリン doxycycline による治療が開始された。初回内服後に発熱と失神 ? became stuporous が見られたが，それ以外に合併症はなく10日間の治療を完了した。
_B. lonestari_ が病原体である可能性の有無と，どのような疾患の原因となりうるか，については判っていない，と研究者が述べている。
患者からの採血検体の PCR 検査は the University of Washington Medical Center molecular microbiology laboratory で解析された。
The test had 100% identity to three published 16S rRNA gene sequences from _B. lonestari_ (GenBank accession nos. AY166715, AY682921 and U23211), and 99.79% identity to another published 16S rRNA gene sequence from _B. lonestari_ (GenBank accession no. AY682920).
_B. lonestari_ は当初，lone star ticks ダニ刺咬後のダニ関連発疹性疾患 southern tick-associated rash illness の原因とみられていたが，発疹の生検による細菌分離はほとんど成功していない。
"今回の症例により，_B. lonestari がヒトの病原体となる可能性があることがはっきりし，TBRF についての知識体系に寄与する報告である"。

調査を続けた結果，the report to WOAH の日付 the date of detection に誤りがあることが判明した。
20 Feb 2021に死亡した the goose に関するものであって，スウェーデンでは2021年5月以降 a reoccurrence of the H5N5 subtype の再興はない。
