2022年11月に Dungass health district (HD) in the Zinder region で発生した髄膜炎流行 the meningitis outbreak へのニジェール保健当局 Niger health authorities の対応が続けられている。引きつづき感染の報告があり，新たな地域 additional HDs in the Zinder region に拡大している。

In week 13 [19-26 Mar 2023] だけで新たに死亡7例を含め67例 new cases が報告された。同期間の人口10万人あたりの発生率は，4 surveillance areas において流行閾値 the epidemic threshold を超えている。流行の早期 (late 2022 to early 2023) of this outbreak において，確定患者の大部分で C群髄膜炎菌 _Neisseria meningitidis_ serogroup C (NmC) が確認されている。From weeks 1-13 of 2023 [26 Dec 2022-26 Mar 2023] の期間に累計831例の suspected cases が報告され，41 deaths が含まれており，致死率 a case fatality rate (CFR) は4.9% となっている。

the Zinder region (ナイジェリア Jigawa State in Nigeria と国境で接する地域) の8 of the 11 health districts から感染が報告されている: Mirriah (309 cases, 13 deaths), Zinder ville (195 cases, 6 deaths), Magaria (134 cases, 13 deaths), Matamèye (109 cases, 8 deaths), Dungass (71 cases, 0 deaths), Takéita (10 cases, 0 deaths), Gouré (2 cases, 0 deaths), and Tanout (1 case, 1 death).

男性が58% of cases を占め，最も感染者が多い年齢層は5-14 years with 400 cases (48.1%), 次いで15 years and older with 245 cases (29.5%), 1-4 years with 151 cases (18.2%), and 0-11 months with 35 cases (4.2%) の順となっている。

[Mod.ML－ 20230209.8708257 では，a total of 559 cases of meningitis (of which 111 were laboratory confirmed), including 18 deaths (case fatality rate (CFR) 3.2%), were reported from 1 Nov 2022 to 27 Jan 2023 in the Zinder Region, southeast Niger と報告されていた。

Background: 広大なサウジアラビア国内のほとんどのの地域でマラリア感染伝播 Malaria transmission は起きていない。しかし新型コロナウイルスパンデミック the pandemic of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) はマラリア対策に負の影響を及ぼし，たとえば三日熱マラリア_Plasmodium vivax_によるマラリア再燃につながったと報告されている。医療従事者の注意が COVID-19 に向けられたことが，マラリア患者の見逃しや診断の遅れによる合併症という結果を生んだ。これらの要因が他と相まって，Dammam, Saudi Arabia におけるマラリア症例の増加に寄与した可能性があり，今回 the effects of COVID-19 on malarial cases について検討した。

Methods: The medical records of all patients who were treated at Dammam Medical Complex for malaria between 1 Jul 2018 and 30 Jun 2022 were reviewed（診療録について検討）。パンデミック前とパンデミック中のマラリア患者を比較した Malaria cases were compared between the pre-COVID-19 period (between 1 Jul 2018 and 30 Jun 2020) and the COVID-19 period (between 1 Jul 2020 and 30 Jun 2022)。

Results: 対象期間中，合計92例 malaria cases の発生があり，60例 cases of malaria がパンデミック the COVID-19 period の症例であったのに対し，only 32例 cases in the pre-COVID-19 period に留まっていた。すべての症例が，国内南部の常在地域 the endemic Saudi southern areas または海外からの症例だった。82例 of the patients (89.1%) が男性で，大部分がスーダン人 Sundaneses (39 patients, 42.4%) とサウジアラビア人 Saudis (21 patients, 22.8%) および部族民 tribal peoples (14 patients, 15.2%) であった。54 patients (58.7%) が熱帯熱マラリア _Plasmodium falciparum_ に感染し，17 patients (18.5%) が三日熱マラリア _Plasmodium vivax_ による感染で，ほか Another 17 patients (18.5%) が both _Plasmodium falciparum_ and _Plasmodium vivax_ による重複感染例であった。

A trend toward more infected stateless tribal patients（部族民）was observed in the COVID-19 period compared with the pre-COVID-19 period (21.7% vs 3.1%).

A similar trend was noticed for mixed malarial infections（重複感染）with both _Plasmodium falciparum_ and _Plasmodium vivax_ (29.8% vs 0%) with a P value of less than 0.01.
