ケニアでマラリアが常在する endemic 地域は，Busia, Bungoma, Siaya, Vihiga, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Baringo, Migori, and Kakamega counties である。2020年のケニアのマラリア調査の（まん延率の）数値 the Kenya malaria indicator survey of 2020 は5.8% で，毎年350万例 new clinical cases と 1万700 deaths が報告されている。the vector は侵襲性が高く highly invasive，駆除剤に耐性を有し，より都市部に拡がっていることが示されている。
_A. stephensi_ は Djibouti (2012), Ethiopia and Sudan (2016), Somalia (2019), Nigeria (2020), and Kenya in March [2023] で初めて報告されている。
[Mod.LXL－ The invasive mosquito species _Anopheles stephensi_ が，ケニアではじめて KEMRI の研究者らを含むマラリア対策チームにより報告されたのは2022年12月の Marsabit County であった (20230222.8708528)。上記投稿では Marsabit における（おそらく熱帯熱マラリア _Plasmodium falciparum_ による) 重症例マラリア増加が報告されているが，昆虫学的調査 an entomological survey by KEMRI scientists でマラリア原虫が確認された蚊族は the typical vector species (_A. gambiae_ and _A. funestus_) のみで，_A. stephensi_ では確認されなかった。ケニアのマラリア感染例への _A. stephensi_ の直接的な関与は示されなかったが，時間の問題であると思われる。
この症例は農村部の牧民 rural herders in Marsabit で，neighboring Isiolo County で感染したことが疑われており，いずれも非常に乾燥し人口密度の低い地域である。
_A. stephensi_ は基本時に都市部に生息する蚊族 an urban mosquito であり，すでにエチオピアの都市部において，熱帯熱と3日熱マラリアの主要ベクター the major vector of _P. falciparum_ and _P. vivax_ in urban Ethiopia となっている。この関連で，2022年6月のケニアの研究者らによる，ケニア第3の都市で熱帯気候 a more tropical climate にある Kisumu における予期せぬ発見 the serendipitous detection of _A. stephensi_ は，マラリア発生とベクターコントロールにより大きな意味を持つ。
Marsabit County におけるマラリア感染例の増加は，2020年から2021年にかけて全国で確認されているマラリア増加傾向の中の一部分である (Annex 4 of the World Malaria Report)。during the COVID pandemic によるマラリア対策の中断も一部関係している可能性がある。
