2023年2月，3週間のフィリピンの滞在から帰国後5日目の55歳の男性が，連日の発熱，頭痛，腹痛の症状のため，カナダの救急室 the emergency department of Vancouver General Hospital, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada を受診した。滞在期間の多くを Manila で過ごしていたが，カナダに帰国する直前の4日間は Palawan Island in the western Philippines に滞在していた。マラリアの予防内服はしていなかった。
血液検査では，血小板数の減少（最低4万8千/ml），ALT，Alpの異常が認められた。
熱帯熱マラリア迅速検査 a single-target _Plasmodium falciparum_ histidine-rich protein 2 rapid diagnostic test は陰性だった。薄層末梢血塗沫標本 Peripheral blood thin smear で寄生虫 variable intraerythrocytic parasite morphology, including band-like forms suggestive of _P. malariae_ (less than 0.1% parasitemia) が認められた。
マラリア _Plasmodium_ spp. の Loop-mediated isothermal amplification testing LAMP 検査は陽性だった。
重症マラリアの診断基準を満たしていなかったため，a 3-day course of atovaquone/proguanil (250 mg/100 mg, 4x/d) を処方し退院となった。
患者の渡航歴と血液塗沫標本の所見から a diagnosis of _P. knowlesi_ を疑い，species-specific laboratory-developed PCR を行い確定診断した。Amplicon sequencing on a 118-bp sequence also confirmed _P. knowlesi_ identification. The patient was afebrile at follow-up 4 days after drug therapy, with resolution of thrombocytopenia and symptoms.

Nearly 900 get food poisoning at 'nagashi somen' restaurant
石川県 Tsubata, Ishikawa Prefecture の流しそうめん店での食事後に食中毒を発症した人が900人近くに達している。県は6日，お盆期間中である8月11日から17日の間の食事後に892人の食中毒が確認されたと発表した。重篤な症状は確認されていないが，22人が入院した。多くは下痢と発熱の症状で，611人が病院で治療を受けた。症状の訴えのあった1298人のうち，県当局は892人について確認したとしている。全国18都道府県からの客だった。.
