In Austria, 14 confirmed cases of psittacosis were reported from 5 of the 9 federal states in 2023...
Denmark
Denmark reported a marked increase in psittacosis cases from late 2023 to mid-January 2024. As of 27 Feb 2024, 23 individuals tested positive for _C. psittaci_ via RT-PCR. Most of the cases were reported from the North Denmark Region, Zealand Region, and the Capital Region. Seventeen cases (74%) were hospitalized, of whom 15 had pneumonia and 4 died.
Germany
Germany reported an increase in individuals who tested positive for _C. psittaci_ in December 2023 with 5 confirmed cases, making a total of 14 confirmed cases in 2023. In 2024, as of 20 Feb, another 5 confirmed cases of psittacosis were notified. There are no reports of a geographical cluster, except with an accumulation of cases around the city of Hannover over the last year. Almost all cases had pneumonia (18 of 19), 16 of whom were hospitalized.
Sweden
Sweden reported an unusually high number of cases of psittacosis in late November 2023 and early December 2023, with 7 cases reported in November 2023 and 19 cases reported in December 2023. This represents a doubling of the number of cases compared to respective months in the previous 5 years.
The Netherlands
The Netherlands observed an increase of confirmed psittacosis cases since late December 2023, with 21 individuals reported as positive for _C. psittaci_ as of 29 Feb 2024, which is twice as many cases as the same period in previous years. Over the past 10 years, there has been an average of 9 cases reported during the same period.

Background in the Region of the Americas
南北アメリカ地域において、多数のオロプーシェウイルス病アウトブレイク numerous outbreaks of Oropouche virus disease (OROV) が報告されており、各国の農村部と都市部のいずれにおいても発生している both rural and urban communities in ブラジル Brazil, コロンビア Colombia, エクアドル Ecuador, 仏領ガイアナ French Guiana, パナマ Panama, ペルー Peru, and トリニダード・トバゴ Trinidad and Tobago。
大部分のアウトブレイクにおいて、全年齢の男女が感染しており、ウイルスに感染した場合、小児と若年者の発症例が多 children and young people were most affected。
ウイルスの感染循環 the circulation of Oropouche virus は、both urban epidemic (affecting humans) and sylvatic (epizootic) cycles のいずれも存在すると考えられる。
森林サイクル the sylvatic cycle では、霊長類、ナマケモノ sloths、そして時に鳥類が脊椎動物の宿主となり、節足動物ベクターは特定されていない no definitive arthropod vector。
都市サイクル its urban epidemic cycle においてウイルス OROV は主に地域内に生息する the bite of the _Culicoides paraensis_ midge の刺咬により伝播され、イエカ属蚊族 the _Culex quinquefasciatus_ mosquito がベクターとなることもある; humans act as the amplifying host (増幅宿主)。
過去10年間のアウトブレイク Outbreaks of OROV は主に the Amazon region で発生している。
Situation summary
2024年2月2日，ブラジル当局 the Brazil IHR National Focal Point (NFP) からはじめて，the state of Amazonas においてオロプーシェウイルス感染例の発生 the occurrence of cases of OROV disease が報告され，さらに the states of Acre and Roraima における感染例について調査が開始された。
3月5日，Brazil's IHR NFP は2023年に the detection of OROV cases in the states of the Amazon region で感染が確認されていたと報告した。
In 2023, 773 samples were diagnosed with OROV by molecular biology (RT-qPCR) (5).
ペルーでは between 2016 and 2022 の間に94例 cases of Oropouche in 6 departments of the country: Madre de Dios, Cusco, San Martin, Cajamarca, Loreto, and Ayacucho が報告されていた。Of the total accumulated cases, 45% occurred in 2016, related to outbreaks in Madre de Dios, Cusco and Ayacucho (6).
2024年，between EW 1 and EW 8, 146 cases of OROV were reported in the departments of Loreto, Ucayali, and Madre de Dios, the highest number of cases reported to date in this country. The provinces where confirmed cases were reported are: Maynas, Loreto (n = 74); Coronel Portillo, Ucayali (n = 38); Tambopata, Madre de Dios (n = 14); Mariscal Ramon Castilla, Loreto (n = 6); Tahuamanu, Madre de Dios (n = 4); Atalaya, Ucayali (n = 4); Padre Abad, Ucayali (n = 4); and Datem del Marañon, Loreto (n = 2) (7).

traveling sellers から pork jelly を購入した3人が、2月17日に急性食中毒の症状で入院となった。54歳の患者は救急要請からわずか2.5時間後に死亡し、67歳と72歳の高齢女性2名も生命の危機にさらされた。jelly は検査目的に Puławy に送付された。
the director of the State Veterinary Institute in Puławy によると、the concentration of sodium nitrite（亜硝酸ナトリウム）was from 16 000 to 19 000 mg per kg of product： suspected that sodium nitrite could have been added to the jelly by mistake.

On 4 Mar 2024, a 17-year-old Quarter Horse gelding at a stable in Los Angeles County, California, was confirmed positive for strangles. The horse developed clinical signs on 28 Feb 2024 including fever, inappetence and lethargy. He is now recovering and is under voluntary quarantine.
