Karnataka from 1 Jan till 25 Mar [2025] において、10万件を超えるイヌ咬傷 dog bite cases と、12例の狂犬病による死亡 rabies deaths が報告されている。
2024年の同時期は6万３千例と死亡０で、通年では36万件のイヌ咬傷と42例の死亡が Karnataka 州内で発生した。
Vijayapura (6930) reported the most dog-bite cases this year, followed by BBMP (6290) and Hassan (6096). However, BBMP areas, Bengaluru Urban areas excluding BBMP (3925), and Bengaluru (2053) have seen 12 263 dog bites. Chamarajanagar (790) and Yadgir (393) reported the fewest dog-bite cases.
Bengaluru Urban reported 6 rabies deaths, the highest in the state. Other fatalities were reported in Belagavi (3), Ballari (1), Dakshina Kannada (1), and Shivamogga (1).
There have been no rabies deaths in BBMP areas and Bengaluru Rural this year [2025].

Case identification and clinical course
2023年9月1日、生来健康であった16か月の幼児が、3日間の発熱、嘔吐、経口摂取の低下、活動性低下、意識状態の変容のため、アーカンソー州の病院 a local Arkansas hospital を受診した。造影なしの頭部 CT 検査 A noncontrast head computed tomography scan で、脳圧亢進の兆候である脳室拡大 ventriculomegaly, a sign concerning for increased intracranial pressure がみられ、髄膜炎 meningitis によるものと考えられた。細菌及びウイルス性髄膜炎の経験的治療 Empiric treatment for bacterial and viral meningitis が開始され、腰椎穿刺は細菌性髄膜炎に一致する結果だった。Qualitative multipathogen nucleic acid-based CSF test results (bioMérieux BioFire FilmArray Meningitis/Encephalitis Panel) は陰性; 血液及び脳脊髄液培養でも no growth after 24 hours であった。
患者の状態は悪化した。
9月3日の脳脊髄液の染色病理検査 pathology review of Wright-Giemsa stained cytospin slides of CSF で多数の primary amebic meningoencephalitis の原因アメーバ numerous amebic microorganisms morphologically consistent with _Naegleria_ spp.が確認された。
家族によると発症の2－3日前に、a splash pad and pool in Pulaski County, Arkansas で遊んでいた。
治療 Treatment for _Naegleria fowleri_ infection (amphotericin B, azithromycin, dexamethasone, fluconazole, miltefosine, and rifampin) が開始されたが、9月4日に死亡した。

毎年 Approximately 3 to 12 persons の非角膜炎アカントアメーバ感染症 nonkeratitis _Acanthamoeba_ infections in the USA が報告されており、ほとんどが死亡する。Acanthamoeba_ spp の潜伏期間は不明で数週間から数か月である可能性があり、環境中に普遍的に存在することから、通常感染源は不明である。
鼻の洗浄 nasal irrigation を行っていた免疫不全のある、10名の非角膜炎性アカントアメーバ感染症 nonkeratitis _Acanthamoeba_ infection の患者は、多くが洗浄に水道水を使用していたが、環境調査では感染源を特定できなかったと報告されている。
今回、汚染のある水道水による鼻腔内曝露と、高齢者の肉芽腫性アメーバ脳炎 the development of _Acanthamoeba_ granulomatous amebic encephalitis を報告し、水道水を用いた電子医療機器使用のリスクを指摘する。
Investigation and outcomes
2023年11月15日、意識状態の変容と体力低下のために入院後約3週間で、死亡した66歳の患者について CDC に報告された。けいれん、発熱、呼吸及び消化器合併症などの症状が進行し、脳の MRI 検査、剖検、組織病理学的検査による所見として granulomatous amebic encephalitis が認められた。
no recent recreational water exposure はなかったが、鼻洗浄器 an electronic nasal irrigation device と a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine at home に、常に水道水を使用していた。
患者には糖尿病と睡眠時無呼吸、アルコール濫用 alcohol use disorder、潰瘍性大腸炎の持病があった。
