South Coast の56歳の男性1名が、2011年バベシア症により死亡した。複数の基礎疾患のあるこの男性は、2010年11月、自動車事故で大きなけがを負い、同院に搬送された。状態が悪化し、2011年4月に男性の血中の原虫が確認された。当初はマラリア感染が疑われたが、後にバベシア症であると診断され、治療が開始されたが、4月18日に死亡した。感染症医は、ダニ刺咬が感染の原因と見ており、げっ歯類からダニが感染したのではないかと推察されている

チリで初めて検出された、イタリアからの患者1名の薬剤耐性肺炎桿菌 _Klebsiella pneumoniae_ carbapenemase (KPC)-producing [microorganism] 感染について報告する。この患者は非ホジキンリンパ腫の治療中で、腎不全により透析を受けており、イタリアで複数回の入院があった。2月28日、サンチアゴ Santiago [Chile] の病院に治療継続目的で入院となった。入院中に発熱があり、細菌学的検査で尿中から肺炎桿菌 _K. pneumoniae_ が分離された。キノロン、アミノグリコシド、セファロスポリン、カルバペネムに耐性があり、感受性が認められたのは tigecycline and colistin のみであった。尿中から検出された同菌は、無症候性細菌尿によるもので、心静脈カテーテル関連の血液感染は、他の細菌 (_Achromobacter denitrificans_) によるものだった。Modified-Hodge test and boronic test が陽性だった。[The modified Hodge and the boronic acid tests は、KPCs. 検出のための表現型 (形態学的) 検査法で、The boronic acid test では、KPCs などのベータラクタマーゼの阻害剤である、boronic acid を含浸させた抗生剤感受性ディスクを使う] 。The PCR (polymerase chain reaction) では、 extended spectrum beta-lactamases TEM and SHV and KPC-2/KPC-3 carbapenemase の存在が確認された。other class A serine carbapenemases or metallo-beta-lactamases は確認されなかった .....

日本国内において、2012年3月、ディリ Dili, East Timor を訪れた3人の旅行者らが、デング熱と診断された。1人は、日本に帰国した時点でウイルス血症の状態にあり、3型ウイルス dengue virus serotype-3 (DENV-3) が検出された。残りの2人は、抗体検査 anti-DENV IgM and IgG antibodies で感染が確認された。東チモールでの感染流行 dengue fever outbreak in East Timor 報告の時期と一致して起きた: 161 laboratory confirmed dengue cases and 563 reports of dengue cases in East Timor this year [2012] (20120306.1060914) 。
The detection of DENV-3 among the travelers returning to Japan suggests that the serotype is currently circulating in East Timor.
