2012年5月16日、フランス南西部 France (Pyrenees-Atlantiques) の 75頭のウシの群れで、高体温 hyperthermia と乳量減少 decreased milk production が認められ、検査された 18頭のうち 9 頭が SBV by PCR (cycle threshold [Ct] range 17-36.5) が陽性となり、SBV by ELISA (IDVet, Montpellier, France) では陰性だった。1頭は positive by PCR and ELISA、 8 頭は PCR and ELISA のいずれも陰性だった。5月23日、第1回の検体から1週間が経過し、検査されたすべてのウシが ELISA で陽性となり、RT-PCR 陽性は 1/18 cows のみとなった。6月29日、 all 18 cows tested が RT-PCR で陰性となった。5月23日に採取された血液検体のウイルス中和アッセイでの中和抗体 SBV-neutralizing antibodies 検出が、SBV ELISA results でも確定されたことから、a commercial IgG ELISA が 急性感染例 acute cases of SBV の確認に適している、と考えられる
