Reoccurrence of botulinum neurotoxin subtype A3 inducing foodborne botulism, Slovakia, 2015
ボツリヌス中毒 botulism の原因には 7種類の神経毒 serotypes (A-G) of botulinum neurotoxins (BoNT)であるが，ヒトに影響するのは only serotypes A, B, E and F である。BoNTs により，神経伝達物質の放出neurotransmitter release が阻害され，弛緩性麻痺 a flaccid paralysis が生じる。ヒトのボツリヌス中毒には 3 main forms of human botulism がある: 食中毒 food-borne, 創傷 wound and 乳児 infant botulism(ボツリヌス中毒)である。The BoNTs を産生する細菌は，系統発生学と生理学的に分類された 6種類の phylogenetically and physiologically distinct bacteria (_Clostridium botulinum_ Groups I-IV, and strains of _C. baratii_ and _C. butyricum_)で，これらの間には大きな違いがある so diverse ため，different species に分類されるべきである。トキシン産生性クロストリジウム菌 the BoNT-producing _Clostridium_ species にはすべて，相対する non BoNT-producing counterparts (not harboring the BoNT gene cluster)があり，different species names, such as _C. sporogenes_ for _C. botulinum_ Group I strains が与えられている。クロストリジウム菌の多様性かつ非トキシン産生株との近縁性を有することが，toxigenic _Clostridium_ species の検出の間違いや見逃しにつながる可能性を生んでいる。トキシン遺伝子 The BoNT gene cluster は，移動性遺伝要素 mobile genetic elements と関連し，between toxigenic and nontoxigenic _Clostridium_ species 間の相互作用 interconversion を生じ，潜在性変異 substantial variation in BoNT sequences and their genomic backgrounds の発生につながる。現在 the BoNT serotypes は 40種類 subtypes 以上に分類され，BoNT/A1 to BoNT/A8, and mosaic forms がこれに含まれる ... ボツリヌス中毒の原因となる食品種類は幅広く，タンパク質を多く含み，部分的に酸素供給が制限されたり，他の細菌により酸素が消費されたりする条件で起きる。マリネされた肉や魚，フルーツ，野菜，キノコや，自家製缶詰，燻製品などがある。BoNTs は熱に弱く heat-labile，70℃以上の数分間の加熱で破壊される。近年，foodborne botulism はほとんど home-produced foods に限られているが，時に commercial food products による single cases or small outbreaks が発生している。Between 2010-2014 の間に，ECDC に 492 cases in Europe の報告があり，the last case occurring in Slovakia in 2012 であった。
