米州におけるジフテリアの発生状況の概要
2017年第 1週から第 49週までに、ブラジル、ドミニカ共和国、ハイチ、ベネズエラで、ジフテリア確定患者が報告された。
ブラジルでは、2017年第 49週までに、ジフテリア疑い患者 42人が報告された。報告は 14州に分布しており、このうち 4人の確定患者が、Acre（アクレ）、Minas Gerais（ミナス・ジェライス）、Roraima（ロライマ）、 São Paulo（サンパウロ）の各州から ... 確定患者の年齢は 4歳から 51歳までで ... ベネズエラからの感染輸入の 1人が死亡した。
ドミニカ共和国では、 ... 公衆衛生当局が 1人をジフテリアと確定したが、残る2人の患者は診断棄却した。死者はいない。
ハイチでは、2014年に感染の流行が始まり，2017年第 48週までに、可能性の高い患者 348人が報告され、このうち、46人が死亡した。2017年最後の 3半期は、前期と比べ患者の増加見られている。2017年第 1週から第 48週までに，可能性の高い患者152人が報告され，致死率は10%。59%が女性、76%が 10歳未満のこどもで、ワクチンを接種していた者が 11%、89% は接種歴を確認できていない。大部分（71%）が Artibonite（アルティボニット、38%）県および Ouest（西、33%）県から報告されており，2016年も報告された患者の 70%が同じ 2県で占められていた ...
ベネズエラでは、2016年第 28週から 2017年第 48週までに、ジフテリアの集団発生が報告された。Bolívar（ボリバル）州 Sifontes 行政地区から始まり、国内の 21州に拡がった。可能性の高い患者 933人のうち，324人は 2016年に発生し，2017年第 1週から第 48週までに 609人が報告された（致死率21%）。(609人中)227人が（細菌の）分離もしくはPCR法検査によって確認された。確定患者（198人）のうち、14%にはワクチン接種歴があり、56%が女性で，最も発生が多かったのは 11歳以上の年齢層で、確定患者の 72%を占めていた。
