Himachal Pradesh 州において，ツツガムシ病 Scrub typhus により 4人が死亡，241 others の検査が陽性であることが確認されている。細菌 _Orientia tsutsugamushi_ が原因ウイルス の急性疾患で，低木のある土壌中の an infected mite larva [chigger] の刺咬により感染する。Himachal Pradesh には a large scrub vegetation (低木の繁茂) があり，an endemic region となっている。2019年のこれまでの死亡患者のうち，1 death は Mandi district から，ほか 3 deaths は Shimla district からの報告だった。
発生分布 Endemic regions for scrub typhus extend from Japan and eastern Russia southward to Australia and the Indian subcontinent, and westward to Pakistan and Afghanistan
