湖北省・武漢市の新型コロナウイルス肺炎の集団発生が保健当局に報告されたのは 2019年12月29日であった ... 同日，武漢市のある病院に肺炎の患者 4人が入院となり，4人はすべて，生きた家きん，水産物，様々な野生動物を市民に販売する海鮮市場 the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market で働いていた。病院から現地保健当局 the local center for disease control (CDC) に通報され，武漢市 Wuhan CDC staff は，この市場と関係する可能性のある肺炎症例についての後向き調査を含む現地調査 a field investigation を開始し，同30日にこの市場に関係のある他の症例が確認されたため，this cluster について湖北省から中央 China CDC に伝えられた。翌 31日，China CDC から専門家が派遣され，検査のための検体採取が行われた。

可能性例の定義 A probable case of VPUE [viral pneumonia of unknown etiology] は，a surveillance VPUE case または上記の最初の 3項目を満たし，かつ海鮮市場 the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan や any other VPUE case との接触が認められるもの。
初期のスクリーニング検査で，26 common respiratory pathogens, including influenza A and B virus, parainfluenza virus, adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, metapneumovirus, rhinovirus, enterovirus, and other common respiratory viruses は陰性との結果だった。1月3日，武漢市の患者から採取された検体で，新型コロナウイルス遺伝子 the sequence of novel beta-genus coronaviruses (2019-nCoV) が同定され，3 distinct strains が明らかにされた。同 7日，この新型コロナウイルスが肺炎患者 this VPUE cluster の原因であることが証明され，NCIP と命名された。
疫学所見
患者の臨床症状はウイルス肺炎の症状に一致し，多くの患者に激しい乾性咳嗽があり，一部は呼吸困難を伴い，ほとんどすべての患者の白血球数は基準値または減少し，画像診断で肺炎像が確認されている。Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market 海鮮市場は western and eastern sections に分かれており，RT-PCR testing and genetic sequencing analysis 検査により，the western section 内の 15件の環境中の検体 environmental specimens collected から，2019-nCoV virus が検出された。さらに範囲を拡げて調査されたにもかかわらず，市場内の動物で感染源と特定されたものはない。
1月19日現在，198 cases of NCIP in Wuhan が報告され，年齢層は a range of 26 to 89 years で平均年齢は 57歳。25例が回復し退院，3例が死亡 ... 合計 16人の医療従事者がアウトブレイクの患者らの治療中に感染したと見られている; 15 have confirmed NCIP, and 1 HCW is still under being verified。確定診断された症例の中で，2から3例が関係する，2件の小集積 clusters が確認されている。これらの事例 the 2-person cluster において，ヒト－ヒト感染 Human-to-human transmission が生じたと考えている。198例の confirmed cases の調査では，22% of patients に，発症前の海鮮市場 the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market との直接の関係が確認; 32% of patients は発熱または呼吸器感染の患者と接触; 51% of cases は，the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market とも患者とも接触がなかった。
暫定的な結論
2019年12月後半に武漢市で確認され，a novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV が原因となっている。感染源の調査が進行中であるが，タイ，日本などに患者が渡航しており，武漢市内の流行が継続し，さらに拡大するものとみている。
調査中に得られた結論として: 1) 最近報告・確認された症例は海鮮市場とのつながりがみられない; 2) human-to-human transmission が起きている; and 3) 医療従事者の the novel coronavirus 感染が起きている。

Epidemiological summary
- 2017年9月以降，国内で散発的なサル痘 monkeypox の報告;
- 2019年12月に 6 new suspected monkeypox cases from 5 sates: Lagos (1), Rivers (1), Oyo (1), Imo (1), and Plateau (2) が報告され，2例 in Rivers (1) and Imo (1) states の感染が確定診断された;
- ナイジェリアから英国を旅行した旅行者 1名が，12月4日に英国内でサル痘と診断された。
- In 2019, a total of 113 suspected cases were reported between January and December. Of the suspected cases, 46 were confirmed from 9 states (Bayelsa, Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Anambra, Cross River, and Oyo), and 1 death was recorded;
- 4 states (Lagos, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa) recorded 85% of the confirmed cases in Nigeria in 2019 -
