Gatumbi village in Embu County において，炭疽感染 anthrax が疑われるウシの肉を摂取した1人が死亡し，ほか数十人が病院に運ばれた。the Embu Referral Hospital 病院で治療を受けていた73歳の患者が死亡した。13日に病気のウシをと畜したこの村の男性が，住民にこの肉を安く売っていたとの証言がある。3日後から，住民らが嘔吐し始め Runyenjes Level Four Hospital 病院を受診したが，死亡した男性は Embu Referral Hospital に転送されたものの19日に死亡した。少なくとも1000人以上の住民がこの肉を摂取したとみられている ... この肉を食べ発病したイヌ3匹とネコ2匹も獣医学サーベイランスの対象となっている。
