赤道ギニア共和国の保健社会福祉省 The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea が，新たなマールブルグ病感染例 an additional confirmed Marburg virus disease (MVD) case を報告し，確定患者数が15例となった。また新たな死亡例が報告され，累計死者数は11人となった。the 20 probable cases (all fatal) を含め合計31人の死亡が報告されている。北西部 Bata district から最多の9例 the most confirmed cases with 9, including 6 deaths が，残りの症例は全国各地 3 districts in varying locations across the country から報告されている。2月13日にアウトブレイク発生が宣言されており，同国でマールブルグ病アウトブレイクが報告されるのは初めてのこと Equatorial Guinea's 1st MVD outbreak である。
Marburg virus disease は出血熱を起こす感染力の強い疾患 a highly virulent disease で，致死率は最大88％に達する。Ebola virus disease の原因ウイルスと同じ科 the same family のウイルスである。突然の高熱，激しい頭痛，強い倦怠感で発症する。患者の多くが7日以内に高度の出血症状を発症する。フルーツコウモリからヒトにウイルスが伝播され，感染した患者の体液との直接の接触やものを介してヒトの間で感染が拡大する。治療用に認可されたワクチンや抗ウイルス薬はない。しかし，経口または経静脈補液などの支持療法や対症療法により生存率は向上する。
