2022年8月、ミシガン州保健当局 the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services から the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) に対し、地域内の腸管出血性大腸菌感染例 regional cases of _Escherichia coli_ O157:H7 infection が5倍に増加していると通報された。Whole genome sequencing を用いた患者からの分離菌の解析が行われ、初期の聞き取り調査で全国チェーンのファストフードを摂取した患者が多数あることが示唆された。
PulseNet, CDC's national molecular subtyping network for enteric disease surveillance サーベイランスにより109例 cases from 6 states, including Michigan (67; 61%), Ohio (24; 22%), Indiana (11; 10%), Pennsylvania (4; 4%), Kentucky (2; 2%) and New York (1; 1%) が特定され、年齢の中央値は22歳だった。合計52名 (48%) patients が入院し、13名 (12%) が溶血性尿毒症症候群 hemolytic uremic syndrome を発症したが、死亡例はなかった。

I would like to report one proven diphtheria case and 3 probable cases in close contact with the index case in Namur, Belgium.
Confirmed case
イラン出身の16歳少女で、ベルギーに4年間在住している。接種歴は不明。2023年6月17日から20日に重症鼻咽頭炎を発症し、血小板減少症、急性腎障害、心筋炎、急性呼吸促迫症候群 acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) から多臓器不全を併発し、同25日に死亡した。死後剖検による診断で、ジフテリア菌陽性 positive PCR for toxin-producing _Corynebacterium diphtheriae_ が確認された。
Probable cases
Case 1: The 11-year-old sister of the index case
Case 2: A 25-year-old nurse working in the refugee center performed a physical examination of the index case on 17 Jun 2023 and developed symptoms on 26 Jun 2023.
Case 3: The youngest brother of the index case is 2.5 years old. He was born in Belgium and has a documented complete immunisation scheme. However, he is currently hospitalised and has been treated with antibiotics and DAT; however, he has not been responding well to treatment so far. We have no test results as yet.

a new report from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) によると、640 cases of Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Brazilian wild birds, and of those, 580 of the birds to test positive were dead.
Those bird species include great black hawk, roadside hawk, gray-headed gull, black-necked swan, tropical screech owl, common tern, royal tern, neotropic cormorant, South American tern, brown booby, Cabot's tern, and magnificent frigatebird.
