Infectious Agent:
Larval stages of dog and cat hookworms (イヌ・ネコ鉤虫 usually _Ancylostoma_ spp.) can cause skin infections.
Transmission:
Hookworm infections occur through direct skin contact with contaminated sand or soil.
Epidemiology:
皮膚幼虫移行症 cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) -- also known as creeping eruption -- に関係する鉤虫の人獣共通感染症は世界中に分布しているが、多くはアフリカ、南米、アジア、カリブ海地域への旅行者で報告されている。放し飼いのイヌやネコが糞をしたビーチや砂場が感染源となることが多い。短期・長期のいずれの旅行者にも発生する。
Clinical Presentation:
皮膚を穿通後1-5日で跛行疹 Creeping eruption が現れることが多いが、潜伏期間が1か月以上となることもある。
典型例では、皮下のヘビ様の紅斑性蛇行痕 a serpiginous, erythematous track と強い掻痒感ならびに軽度の腫脹を伴う。足、下肢、臀部が多いが、体幹や上肢など土壌と接するすべての皮膚表面に発生する可能性がある。
Diagnosis:
CLM は暴露歴と皮膚症状をもとに臨床診断され、皮膚生検は推奨されていない。the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria DPDx laboratory (<dpdx@cdc.gov>), or from the Parasitic Diseases Hotline for Healthcare Providers (404-718-4745; <parasites@cdc.gov>) に診断支援を求めることができる。
Treatment:
CLM is self-limiting; migrating larvae usually die after 5-6 weeks（5-6週間以内に幼虫は死ぬ）。Albendazole（アルベンタゾール）は非常に有効な治療薬である。Ivermectin（イベルメクチン）も有効だが、the FDA の適用はとっていない。治療により強い掻痒から救われ、細菌の混合感染が減少する。
Prevention:
犬猫が放し飼いされている地域の地面やビーチでは、服を着て靴を履き、座るときはブランケットやタオルを敷くこと。

With reference to the communiqué of 7 Jul 2023 [CVO's Special Communiqué: 7月17日現在、下記のサンプルの提出を受け検査が行われていると、獣医学当局者 the Chief Veterinary Officer が明らかにした:
- 56 cats and 1 caracal to the NRI [national veterinary laboratory] in Puławy (29 cats and 1 positive caracal)
- 1 cat to the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (positive)
- 1 cat to AM Warsaw (positive)
- 2 cats examined by scientists from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) (positive)

6月末にポーランドの獣医学研究所 the State Veterinary Institute in Puławy, Poland が、国内各地のネコの高病原性鳥インフルエンザ感染 suspected cases of infection with the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) of subtype H5N1 が疑われていると発表した。7月中旬までに47検体が検査され、うち29検体が陽性となった。一部のネコには、肺炎、中枢神経系症状などの重篤な症状が認められ、死亡例も発生している。屋外・屋内のいずれの飼育でも感染が起きている。
