2008年に欧州では初めてオランダで発生した BTV-8 は、翌年には急速に欧州の大部分に拡大した。ワクチン一斉接種キャンペーンにより、まもなくコントロールされ、フランスを含むほとんどの国々は清浄化 their disease-free status 状態を取り戻した。しかし2015年9月、this BTV-8 strain は the Allier department で再興した。病理生理学的見地から、the 1st BTV-8 European outbreak in 2006-2008 と比較して臨床症状があまり見られなかった fewer clinical signs 。その後フランス国内の広範囲に感染が拡大し（3000例以上）、2019年にはドイツ、フランス、ベルギーにも波及した。
