Abstract
Everglades virus (EVEV) は、ベネズエラウマ脳炎の亜型 subtype II of the Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) complex (Togaviridae: Alphavirus) で、米国・フロリダ州に常在 endemic to Florida, USA する。EVEV は、a clade that includes both enzootic and epizootic/epidemic VEEV subtypes に属する。
動物の間に常在する他のベネズエラウマ脳炎ウイルス other enzootic VEEV subtypes 同様、げっ歯類（muroid rodents） が、EVEV の主要な脊椎動物ベクターである。自然感染 natural infection (virus isolation and high seropositivity), 宿主適合性 host competence (experimental infections), （ヒトと）ベクターとの接触頻度 frequency of contact with the vector の点から、The hispid cotton rat _Sigmodon hispidus_ and cotton mouse _Peromyscus gossypinus_ が重要な保有宿主 important EVEV hosts である。
イエカ属蚊族 The mosquito _Culex (Melanoconion) cecedei_ は、high natural infection rates, efficient vector competence, and frequent feeding upon muroid rodents に基づいて 確認されている、唯一のベクター the only confirmed vector of EVEV である。
Human disease attributed to EVEV is considered rare (ヒトの感染はまれ)。
しかし、250km以上離れた複数の地点で、髄膜炎や脳炎の症例 cases of meningitis and encephalitis are が確認されている。
系統発生学的解析により、EVEV is evolving とされ、おそらくほ乳類の集団内での変化による考えられる。
流行株 epidemic strains of VEEV (subtypes IAB and IC) は、遺伝学的に最も近縁である常在株 the closest genetic relative of EVEV、enzootic subtype ID に由来していることから、遺伝子の変異 Mutations in the EVEV genome が懸念されている。EVEV において流行株への変異 epizootic mutations が発生しているとすると、フロリダ州南部のヤブカもしくは他のベクターの増生 the abundance of _Aedes taeniorhynchus_ and other epizootic VEEV vectors in southern Florida が、 広範囲感染伝播の好適環境を形成していると考えられる。
このほかに影響する因子として、the distribution and frequency of EVEV transmission include the establishment of _Culex panocossa_ in Florida, Everglades restoration, mammal community decline due to the Burmese python, land use alteration by humans, and climate change などが考えられる。
