Highlights
- In week 49, the number of new confirmed cases increased from 16 in epi week 48, 2023 to 21 cases. These were reported in Bauchi, Ondo, Edo, and Ebonyi States (Table 3)
- 76% of all confirmed Lassa fever cases were reported from these 3 states (Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi) while 23% were reported from 25 states with confirmed Lassa fever cases. Of the 76% confirmed cases, Ondo reported 35%, Edo 28%, and Bauchi 13%
- The predominant age group affected is 21-30 years (Range: 1 to 93 years, Median Age: 32 years). The male-to-female ratio for confirmed cases is 1:0.9 (Figure 4)

12月1日、2週間のタイ旅行から帰国した、急性ジカウイルス感染症を発症した with acute symptomatic Zika virus infection 33歳女性が当院を受診した。発症は11月27日で、頭痛、微熱、時差ボケのような感覚があった。11月30日から、顔面を中心に躯幹や四肢に拡がった全身性の発疹が現れ、軽い筋肉痛を伴っていた。
受診時の訴えは、頭痛、筋肉痛、全身性発疹、リンパ節の痛みで、発熱はなかった。頸部に圧痛のあるリンパ節腫脹を触れた。
血液検査では、リンパ球数減少を認めたが肝機能、血沈、血小板数は正常だった。
血液及び尿検体のウイルス検査 Zika virus RT-PCR はいずれも陽性だった。血清検査では、デング熱 IgG 抗体陽性 a positive dengue virus IgG であったが、IgM and RT PCR (blood, urine) はいずれも陰性であったことから過去のデング熱感染と考えられた。Zika virus serology は行わなかった。
最近の他の感染症は PCR 検査で否定された (Other recent infections such as chikungunya, COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, measles and parvovirus were excluded via serology or RT-PCR).
患者は11月中旬にタイを旅行し、ほとんどの期間 Koh Samui に滞在したあと、同月26日にオランダに帰国した。休暇中を通じてなんども蚊に刺されていた。
The patient recovered fully and without sequelae（後遺症なく治癒している）.
Relevance:
This case is very similar to the recent reported cases of 2 tourists returning from Thailand with acute symptomatic Zika virus infection presenting in a hospital in Germany [see Zika virus (11): Germany ex Thailand 20231213.8713690] and emphasizes the importance of raising awareness among travelers of child-bearing age when travelling to Thailand, especially Koh Samui.

Over 700 Airbus Atlantic staff sick after Christmas dinner, cause of mass food poisoning still unclear

Two diseases threaten the cows of Al Jabal al Akhdar and Al Marj.
The head of the Veterinarians Syndicate in al-Marj, said that there are huge losses in cows due to the spread of bluetongue in the city of al-Marj in large numbers, adding that there are no possibilities to combat and confront the disease, according to him.
Al-Asbli explained in a statement to Libya Al-Ahrar channel, that this disease is spread by flies and mosquitoes, and its spread is still expanding to the outskirts of Al-Marj until it reached the city of Al-Bayda.
