8月11日、この時期のタイは多くの地域で豪雨と洪水が発生していると、地域保健当局責任者 Director of Disease Control Office 9, Nakhon Ratchasima が明らかにした。水と泥の中を素足で歩くと、レプトスピラ症 Leptospirosis 感染のおそれがある。
Health Region 9 from 1 Jan to 5 Aug 2024 における最新のレプトスピラ症発生状況として、81例の患者と2例の死亡が確認されており、県別では Nakhon Ratchasima Province が最多の the most patients at 29 and 1 death を、次いで Buriram Province with 21 patients, Chaiyaphum Province with 16 patients, and Surin Province with 15 patients and 1 death を報告している。患者の多くが農業従事者であり、55－64歳の年齢層の患者がもっとも多い。
[Mod.ST－ "Leptospirosis は、水中や土壌中で確認される細菌のレプトスピラ the bacterium _Leptospira_ を原因とする。治療が行われなかった場合、レプトスピラの症例は腎障害、髄膜炎、肝不全、呼吸障害、そして死亡するおそれがある。毎年世界で約100万人が感染し、6万人近い死者が発生している".
"原因菌に曝露後、発症まで2日から30日かかることが多く、2相性の経過をたどることもある:
- In the 1st phase、発熱、悪寒、頭痛、筋肉痛、嘔吐、下痢の症状があり、いったん良くなったように見えるが再び悪化する。
- 一部の患者が、より重症の腎不全と肝不全、髄膜炎を発症する。
数日から数週間の経過となる。治療が行われない場合は、回復までに数ヶ月を要することもある。
"他者に感染を拡げることはまれで、ヒトが感染する経路としては:
- 感染動物の排泄物や体液を含む水や土壌との接触、特に洪水のあと。
- Directly touching body fluids from an infected animal.
- Eating food or drinking water contaminated by the urine of an infected animal".

The remaining case is a 7-year-old boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia who has had a bone marrow transplant, heart failure and chronic kidney failure, and has received 2 doses of measles vaccine.
2024年初以降、市医療機関 city hospitals で500例以上の麻疹が疑われる発疹熱患者 cases of rash fever suspected of measles が確認され、うち262例が（麻疹）検査で陽性だった。半数以上が省外からの患者だった。

CIEVS-DVS-FMS-Teresina は、8日の検査結果により確認されたオロプーシェウイルス脳炎 a case of Oropouche virus encephalitis について報告した。
Hugo Napoleão - PI [Piaui state] の男性で、5月に高熱、頭痛、見当識障害、振せん、不随意運動の症状で the Emergency [Unit], Hospital of Teresina 病院に入院となった。ウイルス脳炎が疑われ、熱帯病病院 the Natan Portella Tropical Diseases Institute (IDTNP) に転院となり、検体 biological samples が採取されウイルス検査が行われた。
血液、脳脊髄液、尿、鼻腔スワブからの検体が IDTNP から the Dr. Costa Alvarenga Central Public Health Laboratory に提出され、初期解析後、the Evandro Chagas Institute -- a national reference laboratory of the Ministry of Health for investigation of arboviruses に送付された。
患者はさらに、the UFPI University Hospital 大学病院に転院となり、一部の症状が改善し退院した。
血液及び脳脊髄液検体の the ELISA test で抗オロプーシェウイルス IgM 抗体 IgM class antibodies against the Oropouche virus が確認された。IgM 抗体が脳血管関門を超えることはないことから、ウイルスが脳と髄膜にも侵入し抗体が産生されたことを示す。
1980年代の during outbreaks and epidemics in the Amazon region に行われた研究で、up to 4% of patients with Oropouche fever に髄膜炎または脳炎などの神経学的合併症を発症することが示されている。
しかしながら、the extra-Amazonian region でこの種の合併症が確認されることはあまり例がない。この数十年間は同疾患による重症神経系合併症の報告がきわめてまれであり、最近の調査では、出血症候群による成人の死亡や胎児死亡、中枢神経系の先天奇形の可能性が注目されている。
Teresina において行われているウイルス脳炎調査により、2024年にはブラジルではじめてのウエストナイル脳炎 the 1st case of encephalitis caused by the West Nile virus が確認されるなど、重要な公衆衛生上のイベントの特定に先駆的役割を果たしてきた。
2021年、このプログラムの中で行われた脳炎患者の血液中のウイルス遺伝子確認により、the extra-Amazonian region でのオロプーシェウイルス循環の早期発見 an early signal of the circulation of the Oropouche virus につながった。
2021年以降今日までに、Teresina の12例の、脳炎、脊髄炎、視神経炎、ギラン・バレー症候群などの神経症状のある患者の血中で抗体 IgM antibodies or the genome of the Oropouche virus が確認されている。
しかしながら、脳脊髄液では確認されていないことから（ウイルス性との）確定診断はできていない。

It was the first of dozens of frantic rescue phone calls made by horrified beachgoers that day, as an acute domoic acid outbreak continued to wreak havoc along the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara coasts this summer [2024].
"The levels we're finding inside these animals is off the charts," said Giancarlo Rulli, a spokesman for the Sausalito-based Marine Mammal Center. "It's all hands on deck."
Domoic acid is a neurotoxin released by _Pseudo-nitzschia_, a common phytoplankton species found in coastal waters. Sea lions -- and other marine mammals -- become poisoned when they eat large amounts of fish or invertebrates that have been chowing on the contaminated diatoms.
Symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, unusual behavior, seizures, loss of pregnancy and death.

Two new outbreaks, in Aisne and the Ardennes, were confirmed on Friday [9 Aug 2024]. In total, 9 regions are concerned: Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Ile-de-France, Grand Est, Centre-Val de Loire and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
